Magnetic Crankshaft Position Sensor Electrical Error

 

 

 

 

 

Circuit Features

 

 

  • In this circuit, the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor generates the 58X reference signal.
  • 58 crankshaft pulses will be produced per crankshaft revolution.
  • The 58X reference signal is used by TCM and ECM to calculate engine rpm and CKP.
  • The task of the  ECM is to  oversee  the number of pulses being generated on the 58X reference circuit and tally them with the number of camshaft position (CKP) signal pulses being obtained.
  • On obtaining incorrect number of pulses on the 58X reference circuit by the ECM, DTC P0335 will be boosted at once.

 

 

 

                                                           When does DTC set?

 

                In this circuit DTC sets when

 

a)        The magnetic crankshaft position sensor is > 0.2V.

                         Or when

 

                   b)    The minimum value of magnetic crankshaft position sensor is < 1.5V.

                                           Or when

             c) The maximum value of magnetic crankshaft position sensor is higher than 2.2V.

 

 

Task boosted after DTC sets

When will DTC clear?

1) The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will be seen glowing after three repetitive trips with a fail.

 

1) The MIL will go off after four repetitive ignition cycles where the diagnostic runs flawlessly.

2) The ECM will begin to record operating conditions at the time when the diagnostic fails which will be stored in the Freeze Frame.

 

2) A history DTC will clear by itself after 40 successive warm-up cycles flawlessly

3) A history Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be stored.

 

 

3) The scan tool can be used to remove all existing DTCs.

4) Disconnecting the ECM battery feed for 10 seconds

 

 

 

 

Diagnostic Assistance

An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed-through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Check for:

  • Poor connection - Inspect the ECM harness and connectors for improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, and poor terminal-to-wire connections.
  • Damaged harness - Inspect the wiring harness for damage. If the harness appears to be OK, disconnect the ECM, turn the ignition ON and observe a voltmeter connected to the 58X reference circuit at the ECM harness connector while moving the connectors and the wiring harnesses related to the ECM. A change in voltage will indicate the location of the fault.
  • Reviewing the Failure Records vehicle mileage since the diagnostic test last failed may help determine how often the condition that caused the DTC to be set occurs. This may assist in diagnosing the condition.
