The BBA-Reman Intelligent BSU
So what’s all the fuss about using a battery support unit? Cant I just use my battery charger? Why should I spent all this money on something that does the same thing?
The main reason is that they are both designed for totally different purposes and the way they affect the battery. The voltage passing through it is the crucial factor when being used in conjunction to diagnostic work and especially programming or reflashing software on the vehicles ECU’s.
The modern day battery charger has changed from the old crude types that where around but they still cannot regulate and stabilise the voltage across the battery especially when you need to switch the ignition on and off several times this especially the case when resetting the service indicator on Land Rover Discovery III when using IDS this is why Battery Support units are now standard equipment in the modern workshop.
As the voltage drops from all the systems being switched on and the glow plugs come on the battery charger now has to increase the voltage to push the current required through the battery this is happens very quickly and can create a power surge or spike to all of the vehicles components and electronics. Imagine that you’re writing critical software on the engine ecu and the messages being written now get corrupted by the unstable voltage where as a battery support unit will supply the vehicle constantly what ever its condition
This is going to have an immediate affect on the running software and possibly the vehicles management systems as the CAN network that sends messages all round the vehicle.
The principle of the Battery support unit is to make sure that the voltage remains stable at all times and smooth surges and ripples of electrical noise across the battery lines giving you the confidence and reliability in your diagnostic work. A battery support unit is not money making piece of equipment, BUT it can save many wasted hours and pounds especially if you choose to learn the hard way.
BBA reman can now supply our own intelligent BSU unit, its clever internals will look at the battery and automatically set itself for increased voltage which is paramount on such power hungry vehicles such as Land Rover, BMW, and Mercedes these require 14.5volts constantly but is the Amperage that is the key. You will need 70Amps to keep the battery and vehicles circuits stable.
If you’re serious about Diagnostics then you need to be Serious about the kit.
There are three models to choose from:
- SBC-220-30 30amp 12vdc Charger for 220 VAC
- SBC-220-55 55amp 12vdc Charger for 220 VAC
- SBC-220-75 75amp 12vdc Charger for 220 VAC
3-STAGE CHARGING FUNCTION
|Automatic 3-Stage Charging provides auto- matic charging control of SBC battery chargers, providing longer and safer use of your system’s battery. 3-Stage Charging allows the battery charger to operate as an automatic “smart charger.” This gives the user the benefit of Bulk, Absorption, and Float stage charging, decreases charge times, insures proper and safe battery charging, and minimizes over- charging. The charger monitors the battery at all times. If the SBC voltage remains in the long term Float stage for more than seven days, the SBC Charger will automatically deliver a boost charge for a predetermined time, then return to the normal Float stage. |

SBC Series meets F.C.C. Class A Model criteria and are U.L. and C.U.L. listed.
SBC units feature a built-in IQ Smart Charger which offers automatic charging control for battery chargers, providing longer and safer use of your system’s battery. The IQ controller allows the
unit to operate as an automatic 3-stage “Smart Charger.” This gives the user the benefit of Bulk, Absorption, and Float stage charging, decreases charge times, insures proper and safe battery charging, and minimizes over-charging.”
