Nissan MICRA K12 DTC P0340 Camshaft Position (CMP) SENSOR (PHASE)

 

When the crankshaft position sensor becomes inoperative this sensor helps the engine
with various controls. It identifies a particular cylinder.

 

DTC Confirmation Procedure

Switch off ignition and wait for 10 seconds before starting a test.

Switch on ignition; ensure that battery voltage is more than 10.5V 

 

With Consult II

Switch on ignition

Select Data Monitor.

Crank engine for 2 seconds and idle engine for 5 seconds.

Proceed to Diagnostic Procedure if it registers 1st trip DTC.

If not then speed up engine to more than 800 rpm and maintain it for 5 seconds

When DTC is recorded then proceed to Diagnostic Procedure.

 

With GST

Perform the same steps as with Consult II

 

Diagnostic Procedure

When measuring the input/output voltage always use some other ground

than the ECM ground terminals.

 

1.  Switch ignition to start

  The engine should start.

  The starter motor should operate

OK:  proceed to 2                         NG:  Check Starting System

 

2.  Switch off ignition

  First loosen then tighten the body ground screws.

    

3.   Disconnect sensor harness connector.

   Switch off ignition

   Between ground and sensor terminal 3 check the voltage (battery).

   Check harness for short to ground / power.

OK:  proceed to 5                         NG:  proceed to 4

 

4.   Check:  

              Harness connectors F1 & E50

              Between ECM and sensor harness for open/short.

              Between sensor and IPDM E/R harness for open/short.

If necessary repair open/short to ground/power in harness/connectors.           

 

5.   Switch off ignition.

   Disconnect the harness connector to the ECM.

   Between the sensor terminal 1 and ground check for harness continuity.

   There should be continuity.

   Check harness for short to ground / power.

OK:  proceed to 6                        NG:  repair open/short to ground/power in harness/connectors.

 

6.  Between ECM terminal 14 and sensor terminal 2 check for harness continuity.

  There should be continuity.

  Check harness for short to ground / power.

OK:  proceed to 7                        NG:  repair open/short to ground/power in harness/connectors

 

7.  Check the component camshaft position sensor (PHASE)

OK:  proceed to 8                          NG:  replace the component.

 

8.  To check the camshaft intake

  Check: rear end of the signal plate of camshaft for debris deposit and chipping

OK:  proceed to 9                          NG:  clean the signal plate or replace camshaft.

 

9.  Check for Intermittent Incident

Refer to Trouble Diagnosis for Intermittent Incident.

 

End of Inspection.

 

Component Inspection of the Sensor

Loosen the bolt that fixes the sensor.

Disconnect the harness connector to the sensor.

Take the sensor out and look for chipping.

Check resistance as per chart given:
