2002 Mondeo tdci transmission ecu location

Hi All,

RE: Mondeo TDCi 2002 52 plate,

I need to find the Transmission ECU.

-autrodata: isn't there.(n/s B post)

-ford Dealer: isn't there(n/s A Post or kick panel rivited on)

Any help would be good,

Hi, Have exactly the same problem. Ford Mondeo 2 litre tdci auto 54. Speedo not working. Have removed the gearbox by transmission specialist and replaced all three sensors; speedo removed and tested by electronics specialist; and have fitted new battery; does the battery have to be a specific type/model? Fault codes P500 and P700. Any help would be appreciated. My next step would be removed the transmission ECU but my local ford dealer doesn't know where it is; any help on the above would be appreciated. David.

Glad its sorted.
Battery voltage dips below the 10.5v limit at the TCM during the engine crank, and because of the way the software in the module works it then fails to pickup the VSS signal from the transmission.

As you saw, results in no speedo.

Hi.

Best to start a new post rather then reviving an old one.
As I quoted in this thread, please DO NOT fit other parts for a speedo concern on a Jatco transmission without first fitting a new battery and testing !

I have seen whole transmissions fitted for the sake of a battery !

i have a fault with 03 plate mondeo tdci with loss of vss p0500? think have removed jatco ecu and tested in line all 3 gearbox speed sensors and are all reading ok even if fault occurs and dash goes blank according to ford tech helpline it has vss sensor on outside but the muppets wont belive there isnt one or that it does not come from abs unit seems to be an odd year / build and wondered if you had got any ideas ohh by the way dash has been replaced and programmed it seems to me that jatco module could be at fault

Hmmm Ford seem to sell very little for these boxes, if my local dealer is anything to go by.:hehe: But i have a source for all Jatco parts.

But i suppose very few dealer,s will rebuild a auto-box like these. (cost effective :hehe: )

Right, now we know its Jatco lets move on :D

Speed sensor is in the middle of the box, and Ford do not service it as a separate part. Its a new box :crazy:

Please, Please fit a new battery to this vehicle before you go ANY further !!

Its a known kwirk with Jatco's. If the voltage drops at the TCM during crank, the module then decides to ignore the VSS. If its still the same can you check if you have a VSS at the TCM and PCM dataloggers ??

I will check tomorrow but i suspect the speed sensor you have on order is a output speed sensor !!! I have lots of info (ford and jatco) on these as they tend to lose reverse ;)

Thanks for the Banter!

Its a 5 speed Jatco. Auto data shows and lists the speed sensor on/in the transmission valve block. My local Ford dealer is ordering a sensor ( on undated back order :( ). He can't be certain where the sensor fits.

Checking through all CAN data suggests that it does not use the ABS speed signal ( as I said auto data shows it pictured in the valve block).

I never did find the control unit (I may need to look again)

If its the 5 speed Jatco, I may be able to save you a whole lot of grief ! :D TCM is on the inside of the left A pillar, behind the glove box, almost up at the windscreen. A real git to get at.

If a CD4E (4 speed) its part of the PCM ;)

If it's a 4-speed auto I'm pretty sure the transmission control is part of the engine management.

If it's a 5-speed and you've had no luck finding it, could it possibly be in or on the gearbox? :unsure:

Hi Kev,

loosing speedo. odometer. trip. and seat belt warning.

Appears to have a p0500-speed sensor fault in the transmissiuon/engine causing can codes at the dash.

otherwise I am stuck. Location of transmission ecu was to just check multiplug connections.
