Hi there.

I have a Ford Fiesta 1.4 2006. The ABS light is illuminated so is the handbrake warning light and the speedo is not working. When you switch the ignition on, the speedo needle rotates all the way round and then back to the stop. Also the display in the centre of the cluster has just lines instead of milage, trip and miles until next fuel stop.

I plugged the Bosch Kts in and fault codes listed in Engine control: U0121 lost communication with the ABS control unit.

Instrument cluster: U0121 lost communication with ABS control unit. U2197 invalid vehicle speed data. U2200 invalid ODO count data.

None of our diagostic equipment will communicate with the ABS. The ABS control unit has both positive's and one earth which its meant to have.

Does anyone know if this is a faulty instrument cluster or is the CAN BUS telling me the ABS control unit will need to be changed.

Phil

Welcome to the BBA Forum BigGrin

More likely a problem with the CAN, time to get your SCOPE out.

Thanks Kev for the reply.

Like what your saying says, "if you don't know how it works, don't try and fix it" Smile

I have not delt with CAN BUS yet or tried to scope CAN BUS so would not know what to look for.

I have decided to take it to our local Ford specialist who knows abit more than me!!!!!

2006 MY Fiesta had a notorious concern with the ABS ECU's. They suffered what was classed as 'electrical over-stress', and just fall over.

I would guess you are looking at a new ABS ECU, but powers, grounds and comms needs to be confirmed first.
