Just wonder if anyone might have some input for a fault I have on a 1.9TDI Passat B6
Vehicle details are:
VW Passat 1.9TDI (BKC) 105PS 2006 56k miles
The problem basically is that the owner reports a lack of power/sluggishness. He says that it has happened gradually, and that he only became more aware of it when he had to begin to change down a gear on an incline that he did not have any problems with previously. I have driven the car and it feels okish, but certainly you do have to boot it hard to feel the turbo begin to boost at ~2k rpm.
I have scanned it with VAGCOM and there are no faults logged on the ECU. Someone has said that these are prone MAF failure, but I would rather diagnose in the traditional way rather than just swapping components in a rather haphazard manner and hoping for the best.
I would appreciate any help in diagnosing this or instructions of what to look for in the live-data in order to make a more educated guess at diagnosis.
Many thanks indeed,
Neil

>>> I would rather diagnose in the traditional way <<<
There is only one way and that is a logical approach with good system knowledge.
The other way is called poke & hope.
What readings have you got in live data for air mass and EGR duty at idle and then at WOT ?
What is your boost figures and duty cycle at idle and under load ?

Hi guys,
Many thanks for the response.
Tismot: do you know what channels EGR and AMM are?
Robski: Already tried this one, told customer to run it until almost empty and then fill with Shell V Power and there doesn't seem to be much of a difference.
having driven the car again this morning, the best way I can describe it is that it lacks low-end torque, and when it does come on boost, its barely noticeable.

HI Robski,
Thanks for your reply. I have an older (but full) version of VAGCOM (before it became VCDS ) that doesn't have the correct label file for this ECU, but I can still read live data.
Tell me more about the 'black' fuel issue
Thanks,
N

Haven't had a chance to look yet - customer needed the car, so I couldn't hang onto it to check. It's coming back again on Sat so i'll have a look then.
Many thanks for your help.

If its an older version why dont you update it? Or is it a clone copy, I suspect if its that old its the latter yes? That being the case youll probably not get much help from those who buy and support genuine equipment, train and work to earn a living and offer a good service to their customers.

Nope not a clone, a genuine copy that I paid for many moons ago from Rosstech. I upgraded the hardware some years ago but they wanted me to pay for a new licence for the s/w - I didn't at the time as I didn't deal with enough VW stuff. In addition, it all runs on an old laptop that I'm afraid to uninstall from as I have other tools on it that I continue to use. I also have an older generic fault reader by SykesP again that I paid for (new) that can do most of what VAGCOM does but not the newer diag via CAN. Oh well...
