hi i have a couple of problems first is on my dash its got the service light on constantly since i bought the car. also its started showing on the dash elecrtonic fault and at the same time it sounded like the fan belt was making a loud sound i have been driving the car as this didnt affect the power or the proformance i have drove the car tonight but unfortunatly the cambelt has now gone on the car would someone tell me how much im looking at to get it fixed as its due its m.o.t soon thankyou kelly

Welcome to the forum.
Renault use several different sized engines in both petrol and diesel - which one is yours?
The SERV light was probably warning you about dangerously low brake fluid.
Driving it until the slipping fan belt disintegrated and took the cambelt out was not very bright; a simple, inexpensive, repair is now a major, potentially terminal, one.

i had the r.a.c out to it a while ago and they said it was prob fanbelt or another belt but they never said it was the cambelt thats why i drove it plus im heavly pregnant and had no other means of gettin about i know it was stupid but its done now also its petrol and its a 1.4 do u know how much im looking at paying for it only had the car 6 months and had problem after problem its only done 55,000 on the clock and twice the injection rods have gone on it in them 6 months what do u think the best thing to do is thankyou kelly

There is no fan belt.
The noise may well have been the auxiliary belt, but if this allowed to wear it can enter the cambelt housing.
Not sure what you mean by injection rods.
Only you can decide what you want to do, but if the car is in otherwise good condition, my advice would be to have it repaired by someone who will guarantee their work, and take it as a learning experience to sort out problems before they get too serious.
It might be worth having someone check the car over for any possible MOT issues before spending out on the repair, just to make sure you don't spend the money and find yourself with more problems.
When buying a car, buy a car that has service history, i.e. proof that it has been serviced as recommended from new, and have your mechanic inspect the car before buying to check for any problems- the cost of this will save you money in the long term.

Trying to quote a price on a car I haven't examined is impossible; there are both 8-valve and 16-valve 1.4 petrols on that year - the 'book' time to replace the valves is either 8, or 13, hours labour - and that's on a new car - add an unknowable amount for rusted fastenings etc.
Don't know what garage labour rates are where you are; but, with a good few hundred pounds of parts as well, that's heading for £1,000+ which must be more than the value of the car.
