Hello there,
I've been on a few forums and can't find a solution to a problem I have had for a few years with my car.
It is a vw golf 1.9 TDI Auto (ATD) 53 reg (04). It decides, randomly, every year, that it doesn't want to start. I have so far changed the crankshaft sensor (2010), and the battery (2011). Just recently my car has started again not wanting to start. The garage who had seen it over the years, has given up. He can't find anything wron with it. The only thing I can say is, when the AA came out, on a few occasions, sprayed some DW40 into an air hose to get it moving again. I read on this forum, someone over a year ago had a similiar problem to mine and it ended up being the air intake/anti shudder plate being stuck.
Can anyone help me, because at the moment this car is a monster ...and I want to just send it to the scrapyard to crush it to tiny death.
a very, very annoyed VW Golf owner !

Hello again Loopdiloo...It could be the anti shudder flap but it is easy to check this by seeing if it is full of crud. Also when an anti shudder flap sticks it makes the engine sound odd, like it has no compression, which it hasn't!

Hi again Crasher,
I daren't go to VW with the info you already gave me this morning as they will be rubbing their hands with glee when they see me coming through the door. I don't know who to go to now as a matter of fact ! , because they just stick it on a diagnostic machine then tell me there's nothing wrong with it. I think I will just have to wait till I get back in my monster of a car..and doesn't start up to call the same garage out and see if he can do anything with the info you already gave me. Someone else has suggested it could be faulty glow plugs, but surely that would of flagged up on the diagnostic read out ?
Thanks again

Hi Sparki & K and R,
Thanks for the replies. I'm up north (Liverpool ). You'll read me ranting on here later if my car won't start. Luckily I'm not back in work till Monday. When it does this 'not starting up' thing, nearly always the glow plug warning comes up on the dash. Couple of occasions everything cames up. Service history is ok. I don't have much done at VW because it's just too expensive, so I usually go and get things done elsewhere.
Thanks guys.
