This car will cut out when driven on longer journeys, although it is getting worse and will do the same on shorter drives. Will always start again straight away.
The only code I can find is 16885 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Implausable Signal P0501. The speed sensor on the gearbox has been replacedm
Am I right or wrong in thinking that the VSS will not cause the car to cut out ???
She has not mentioned any Speedo issues.
thanks

A failing ECU supply relay (relay 30?) doesn't always leave codes. Worth a quick check for cracked solder joints inside it.

Good point Angus. a dead ecu can not store a code.
Once again, can I assume a VSS would not cause it to cut out ???

Never, ever, assume....
I have never seen a case where a VSS fault will cause a cut-out while driving. A failure to idle, maybe, but does that fit the event description?

Naada - Only ever cuts out whilst driving. I watched it tickover for an hour.
The VSS fault was in the car when I got to it, I dont know if they cleared it or not after replacing it
I disconnected the Cam Position Sensor whilst it was idling which made very little difference. i scoped the CKP which did not miss a beat.

If it only cuts will driving, you need to catch it in the act. LED,s to see what cuts.
As for disconnecting the cam sensor while running, what did you hope to prove ?

LED's - Good idea - What do you think about the Launch CRecorder, anyone used one ? What did you make of it ?
I was elliminating the Cam Sensor as the culprit - Was that not the right thing to do ??? (I have come across vw's that dont need it to run, just wanted to quickly check)

Cam sensor only needed for starting as you found out. So not your cutting out prolem.
C,reader are good because you plug it in and allow the cutomer to drive the car untill the problem appears, but it may not capture what has shut down.

Had you a look at your freeze frame data georgio?
It may be worth load testing the crank sensor wires and give them a good shaking around while your at it,
A full scan with vcds may show up something also,
