Hello,

My wife has a Citroen C3 1.4 HDI 2003 and for the past 4 weeks it has trouble staring in the mornings. I have to give it a little touch on the accelerator and it will fire up after about 5-10 seconds of turning the key. Then there is a big cloud of white smoke kicks out of the exhausts. Once warmed up it runs and starts fine. It runs a little noisier than normal (i think) but apart from that all is OK. Its got roughly 80k on the clock and I had no issues with it since we brought it 4 years ago.

I took it to Diesel electro and they said they has trouble defining the fault codes and it would have to go in too the Citroen garage. So I took it to Citroen and there diagnostics was that the engine had failed and I would need a new one! or they could do me a deal on a trade in! Brilliant! They said in a very unconvincing manor that the cylinders had lost compression, and a new engine was the only fix.

I was not really convinced by this so asked if they would give me the report which I had paid for which would show me what sensors/error codes were appearing and what they meant. The code were P0202 and P1163.

I'm not sure on the next steps, I'm not that handy with cars and willing to give anything ago before I have to get a new car or engine! Unless anyone tells me it's a dead duck and I would be wasting my time?

Regards

J

Welcome to the BBA forum BigGrin

Take it to a good independent, get them to observe the cylinder correction factors in live data & hopefully they have a scope to carry out a relative compression test hot & cold.

What area are you in ?

Any previous work before this fault started ?

And as above, that way you will know for sure if engine or not !

From that P1163; I take it this is the weird 16-valve model with Delphi C6 injection?

Has anyone done a leak-off rate test on the injectors?
