Hi,

When I was topping up windscreen washer yesterday I noticed there was a small rubber pipe lying loose in the engine bay. After I discovered where it was suppose to be connected I realise that the bit where it connects to the valve was broken see pic. Now the van was running fine at this point.

I googled bosch 0928400309 which was a number I could see on the valve and found out it was some sort of solenoid valve. I went to local car breakers where I found another Citroen relay van same age and took the solenoid valve off this and fitted it to my van. Now the van started no problems however wont go past 2500 revs without making a strange noise and white smoke coming out exhaust. Thinking the valve I just bought must be faulty I fit the original valve again and try starting the van again it starts but wont go past 2500 revs with making a noise and white smoke.

I have ordered new valve from Citroen which will be here tomorrow I am hoping this will solve the problem.

Anyone able to shed some light as to why it was driving fine until I swapped valve but even after fitting original valve it was still not running properly?

Thanks in advance

One side of the valve will be connected into the vacuum pump system. But where does the other pipe go? Turbo, EGR valve or whatever would be interesting to know. Then we would know what the valve is controlling and be able to take it from there. Solenoid valves are, to a degree, multi-functional in that they can be used to control any vacuum operated actuator so I doubt if the part number will tie it down much.

hi,

I sent the picture I took over to Citroen and they said it was something to do with the EGR valve. I just don't under stand how the van was running fine with the rubber hose not connected in the first place and when I put the original valve back in its still doing the same. Strange

I'm only on here looking for some help to point me in the right direction, don't think comments like that help anyone or are necessary.

First question - what's the engine code - 4HY? (It's in the VIN number.)

There are two 'EGR' valves on a 4HY. One is the inlet shut-off 'dozer' valve - jam that half way and it will affect the running!!

Was that solenoid disabled for a reason; or has lack of use seized the inlet butterfly valve or broken its plastic link-rod?

Hi Angus thanks for your input.

Vin Number VF7ZBRMNC17824738

Engine Number DZ354068273

I have had the van for almost 2 years and its always been running fine I don't know if the rubber hose worked its way loose or if the previous owner had disconnected it. I have since put the old valve on the van and left the hose disconnected just like the way I found it but still the same.

Well I m not qualified or a mechanic so I don't have the answers on here to the questions people are posting. I'm actually a joiner in the building trade and I m sure I could write what you know about joinery on the back of a first class stamp!
