Hi

Friend of mine bought for me recently Citroen and haven't checked properly.

When was driving home to Chorley near Mancester from Carlesle he found the van was very sughish(something like 40 mph) and black smoke.Nothing displayed on dush board

I was thinking is MAF problem and bought new one,but he couldn't find where MAF is situated.

Can you advise me what problem can be and if you know good specialist somewhere around Chorley

Year ? Engine Code ?

Can,t find the MAF, does it have one ?

I think you are out of your depth.

You will get no better than Autospark,s diagnostics in manchester.

You've just got the van, you've got no history of this fault, so it could be dozens of things. You could waste thousands just throwing random parts at it.

Don't even think of fitting anything until the fault has been properly investigated and diagnosed by a professional - these Sofim-engined 2.8 vans are rare, so find a specialist with the right equipment to test it properly.

No chance of taking it back to where you bought it I suppose?

But Angus is right. You can't just think it might be a MAF and stick one on, anyway the only wiring diagram I have for one of these doesn't seem to show a MAF. But then if someone sold you one...

Also I find it hard to believe that it can be so sluggish that it tops out at 40 mph but there is no MIL on. Are you sure about that? Does it come on when you switch the ignition on?

Hi

It's no way now to take back the van, because I called the oner stright back and they sad they sold good van bla bla bla....,but defenetly they knew what the are selling

I found Angus on foum wrote ones about air flow meter and I ask one friend who is a good mechanic, only problem it is outside UK

Also,I found on Angus replay to one guy with citroen relay 2.2 this thinghs which is quite hard to understand, reason of this I'm not very good in English:

Angus.Check that the plastic link rod isn't adrift on the air butterfly valve positioned on the end on the inlet manifold.

I should advice my friend to find a computer check by the end and after I will let you know what exactly was

Thank you all chaps for your help and replay

Are you very sure this is a 2.8 HDi?

That is an Italian SOFIM engine that is completely different to all the other engines fitted in these vans and they all have different fuelling systems and components - what is fitted on one engine may not be there on another one.

Black smoke indicates a lack of air in the combustion chamber - it could be many things. Don't rule out simple things like a blocked cat - or even a clogged air filter.
