Hi All ,I have the above vehicle which has no digital indication
of the gear selection . All other indications normal and
all other systems work as advertised . So the engine will
not crank due to no message to the ECU as to neutral
being selected .
Any suggestions .... I do not have any wiring diagrams
but I am guessing that a signal is sent from the three
sensors on the gear selection mechanisms .
Any input would be much appreciated .
Regards , Jerry

Jerry

The place to start is with a global code read.

"but I am guessing " not good to guess.

Get it on MB Star before you spend any time with the wiring harness.

Hi Guys ,Thanks so much for your responses .
To answer a couple of queries :
This is my own vehicle purchased for a couple of hundred $$$ and
is a project .
To have a Star diagnosis carried out the vehicle has to be trailered
a considerable distance as it will not start .
I have purchased a second hand ACS control module which made no
difference when fitted . Thankfully I can return it .
No problem to replace and no need to bleed if you disconnect the
hydraulic cylinder body and the control module body . The pick-up
point is managed by removing the electric motor cover and manually
rotating the armature .
I have since purchased another W168 ... and this one is a full manual .
ie. with a clutch pedal .... interestingly it has a digital gear indication
on the dash . However it will only indicate neutral ( N ) , and yet it
drives and performs quite well . Particularly after I cleaned the MAFS
and the throttle body . This was again another cheap purchase and it
posseses all the three gear sensors that the ACS version has .
Will keep you posted after obtaining wiring diagrams and some 5 pointed
Torx bits .
Hopefully we can all learn something and be able to assist others in their
endeavors .
Cheers , Jerry
