hi, driving up to lights in my 1998 1.8 16v astra, engine stopped, turned ignition, fired up, but imediatly died, repeatedly, AA came out said it was fuel filter, no codes coming up, replaced filter, still the same, can hear the fuel pump wen I turn on ignition, fuel getting to manifold, if I spray fuel down top of manifold, car will continue to run until I stop spraying fuel in. can anyone advise please..

As dave-1 said, although it sounds like it won't be triggering the injectors as it runs otherwise. Maybe wiring issue but the ECU's weren't too great on that age but, in my experience, they usually lose the coil drivers. Which doesn't mean your's is'nt different!

So can you get any live data and/or scope the signal from the MAF? If not get a wiring diagram and check power/earth to it. In fact you should do that even if you can get any data. I would have expected a code or two though. Is the engine MIL on now it's running?

I honestly wish you luck and you may well be right. But, just to put it on record, I suggested you tested the MAf but I did not tell you to fit a new one.
But if that's the way you're going, and as I said you may well be right, please get a good one and not an "Ebay special".
This is NOT criticism but just me trying to help so read in that light.
