I think this 2015 Golf 1.4TSI - CZCA eng code might be beyond my abilities / equipment.

Car is new to me - came in with no power steering and lots of related lights on the IC.

Below is first system scan with VCDS. My first concern is very voltage showing from T30 I think we have an internal fault with rack motor / module.

Power and ground from T30 to motor present and correct - no current draw on supply. Module is obviously alive and assessing itself.

As you can see a number of codes and probably procedures seem to be beyond VCDS from what it is saying. (ODIS is on it way to me as it was on the shopping list anyway)

I have little / no experience with these later racks and would like some experienced eyeson if possible.

My initial take as I said is - motor unit is fubarred. I did vainly try a steering angle reset but ran out of upper arm strength - of course it didn't work.

No fault with battery - power and ground supply to rack motor present and correct.


T30 and T15 supply voltages tested NFF


Battery tested - NFF. Pin out supply at motor - current clamp on. No movement.

All associated fuses NFF.

It really seem rack motor is dead in the water.

Interesting one.. Would be good to see the outcome here!

A good few Implausible Data DTC's in there ! Voltages values will be transmitted over CAN to the Gateway and to VCDS

The fact that the Motor is not running or pulling current (amp clamp) maybe because it is not commanded ? I think an Open Circuit on the Motor would throw an Open Circuit code on this car but not 100% sure, unplug the motor to entice that code would confirm that (on a known good system with no CAN errors)

I'm not looking at a WD now but can you power the motor directly, check resistance of it, activate it via VCDS? And that pump must be switched by a Relay or PWM Driver, are they integral to the unit?


Back to the implausible data faults, perhaps a scope on the Can lines with and without SAS and Power Steering connected may show something. Pico will decipher the messages into Hex. From that you may see an error in data length or integrity and pin it down to faulty area.

I have had a poke around underneath today.

Live data in KTS on J500 Steer Assist Module is seeing the torque sensor - even though I have internal fault on J500

But no data from Steering angle - nice clean can signal at J500 - all inputs and outputs at J500 as per current flow diag.

PCM complaining no steering angle - steering angle faults for low voltage ABS.

So going SAS tomorrow. Drawing a timeline from freeze frame data - SAS is first to report fault.

I have this nagging feeling ODIS would have this nailed by now. AD UK and AllD Euro - useless.

Anything on this , i am in the exactly same situation , same errors etc etc . The only difference is that the car was with me and this happened after removal of sterring rack for turbo replacement . And now no steering assistance , the wheel is hard as a stone....

I had to put this down - as customer not in hurry and I've got plenty on.


Looking an freeze frame data times - I was going to confirm Ps and Gs at Steering angle sensor.

Last time I looked at any data the SSP said its in the column and VW (all data) suggested its in the pinion.

If yours is after a rack R&R then maybe yours is in pinion. IDK

Don't know much more at the moment - as I have dropped the the ball.

Ok my progress from last night is this. Flashed "44" with odis , and voala steering wheel on dash turned from red to yellow . After that went in to modules and all were just complaining about basic settings of angle sensor. Did those , turned of key , turn on all good , No dash light etc etc - i say to my self WOHOOOOOO . But no , car still doesnt have PS , wheel is stiff as a rock. Restarted the car several times , went for a short drive and still no PS. Checked all modules again - not a single error. I went out said f' it.... and then things got strange . After the car went to sleep - and me back in it , key on and again red steering wheel again with the same 2 errors in "44" Internal Fault - B200F F0 and Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error - B2000 00 . I just cant wrap this thing in my mind , how can a steering rack go BAD just from removing and reinstalling.... And believe me when i say , we were very carefull with this one - been reading all over the internet how these go bad even from a rock flying of the road and hitting it .... and it happened.

P.S One thing i notice different from the Op is that my terminal 15 and 30 are as they should be 12v+ on Key on and 14v+ running. I am seeing the Angle sensor working , torque sensor is reading good as well. Its just that something doesnt command the Motor to move ....
