Hi,

Suddenly the Steering wheel system light come on and thus the car lost the steering assistance, this can be like for a couple of days then suddenly next day light will be off and steering assistance will be back like normal, it can be then working for a week until light comes on again, and so on.

I connected the diagnostic machine to the car and it came with the code: Engine Phases (open circuit) related to the Electronic Steering system, any idea what does this mean???

Thanks
Daniel

Did you manage to sort out this fault?
I am having the same thing and coming up with error code c1008 engine phases.
There are also 2 more codes - c1012 and c1013 saying no signal from the speed sensor and alternator.
I have another column and the fault codes are identical.
I took the battery off and charged it and the steering went fine for about 4 hours but has now gone again.
The faults clear until the engine is switched back on and then they come straight back.
The battery is ok and the alternator seems to be ok. I used a voltmeter and at about 2000 rpm is was reading 14.2v.

Can you please tell me how you sorted outyour fault?

Thanks

Matthew
