HI ALL,

WE HAVE A 2005 1.9 TDI PD  ENGINE CODE AXB

CUSTOMER COMPLAINT WAS ENGINE STUTTERED WHILST DRIVING THEN WAS OK FOR 20 MILES THEN STUTTERED AGAIN & WAS OK,PARKED UP & SWITCHED OFF & THEN WOULD NOT START.  WE HAVE PLUGGED IN OUR SNAP ON SANNER & WOULD NOT COMM ON EOBD,  & WOULD ONLY GO TO FAULT CODES ON VW, IT WILL NOT SHOW ME ANY DATA & THERE ARE NO FAULT CODES.  I HAVE CHECKED EVERYTHING USING A DMM & AUTO DATA, EVERYTHING IS PRESENT APART FROM LIVE PULSE FROM ECU TO INJECTORS.  ALL LIVE FEEDS & EARTHS ARE PRESENT TO ECU.  WIRING FROM ECU TO INJECTORS IS GOOD.

ANY IDEAS

Can't help you with the problem, but this is what I know about the communication with the scanner.
If the Snap-on scanner doesn't know the number of the ecu it will only show you fault codes.
This is because it is unknown what data is in which group. You can get data when you go to expert mode, but there will be no text messages saying what the data means. You would have to interpret that yourselves.

As to no EOBD comms, there are 2 possibilities:
Have you tried the Can-adaptor? It may be that this vehicle is on Can for EOBD.
Although diesels in passenger cars are compliant from 2004, commercial vehicles are compliant from 2006 or 2007 based upon their weight.
It is possible that the vehicle is just not compliant yet.

Thank s for your replies,

When i crank it over the rev counter works, so i assumed the crank sensor is working?    I can hear the fuel pump in the tank & it is priming the high pressure pump, i have removed one injector & have a lot of fuel pumping out when cranked.  I have no pulse to any injectors.?

I am back on it tommorow worse luck   any more ideas please

Thanks Chris

you would need to disconnect the round plug to the injectors on this plug marked no 7 from memory the voltage at this point should be 2.5 volts if this is missing then your injectors won't fire up regards johnjo

Fred
