| | Mart There is no earth (or positive for that matter) as such, as the earth and positve switch wires to make the window go up and down ie the motor runs in both directions by switching feed and earth. Kev.

| | hi thanks for the reply i know the ecu switches the earths and positives around i was wondering if there was an earth missing off the ecu or sum other part of the wiring loom. i have looked but can't see any because everything works as it should when i check the connectors with a multimeter its as if the ecu hasn't got an earth to finish the circuit any info about the earths would be great because its doing me head in ha thanks. |

| mart84639 (08/11/2009) I know the ecu switches the earths and positives around................................. off the ecu ............... as if the ecu .......................its doing me head in ha ....If you're going to persist with this, please indicate whether you are 'talking' windows or locking. I believe you believe there is an ECU for the windows. There is not! It's 'doing my head in'.
I stand, to be corrected. |

| yep..correct there is no ecu for either windows or central locking, everything runs from relays on fusebox and through switches for windows. central locking is the same, relays in fusebox, the only other ecu is for the alarm system..if fitted.or engine, neither of these control the windows or locks, have a look in a haynes manual, excellent wiring diagrams for these, got one at work somewhere when i had an old 130 si orion. |

| | hi thanks for the replies but there is a black box with central locking writen on it which the door looms go into then into the fusebox. I have put an earth on the black wire and the windows work but the locking works with the ignition on so i think there is a prob with the perminent feed, if it has 1, does any one have the pin data for this black box which is in the drivers kick panel. Thanks for your help. |

| | Mart I think that box is only fitted if there is remote [radio-controlled] c/locking and alarm fitted. Do you have the radio fobs?

| | Yes, there is a module for central locking ( and alarm ). Only the last of the highest spec Escorts had remote locking ( I only ever have seen it once - a '98 Ghia X ). I'm sure that no Escort Van ever had central locking. As yet I do not see any reference to the age of the vehicle, and donor!
I stand, to be corrected. |

| | the module in the kick panel is for the alarm system,it doesnt control the central locking.it takes the signals from the micro switches around the door locks to arm/disarm the alarm system and from micro switch on door latches to detect opening of the doors, not from courtesy light switches as some may think. it has no comms through the diag socket, you can do a manual test of the door switches and bonnet switch by activating the bonnet switch several times within 5 seconds,a beep will confirm test mode. as i said in an earlier post..grab a haynes manual on it,quite comprehensive on the door locking/window wiring feeds,etc..you will see what needs to go where from it. good luck. |
