| | Good day My wife drives a VW Polo Classic 1.6 and the aircon doesn't work any more. It started by not cooling the car like it used to. When it went for its service, I asked the dealer to please try and see what the problem was. They came back to me and said the main fan was not working and thats the reason why it didn't cool the car down. They replaced the main fan at a heafty price offcourse and it did make a big difference. But it still wasn't as cold as what it used to be in the beginning. Eventually I took it to a aircon specialist and they said it just needed re-gassing, which they did and it worked. Then about 3 months ago it just stopped working completely. The a/c light comes on when you push the button, but the pump doesn't kick in and neither does the fan. Also the recirculate button stopped working, the light also comes on but it doesn't change over from taking in outside air to circulating the air inside the car. I took it back to the aircon specialist and had them check it out. They manually tested the compressor and it does kick in, then they tested the pressure switch and said that it was working 100%. This was late in the afternoon and they said I must bring the car in the following day. Which i did. They eventually phoned me and said they think they found the fault and that it was some sensor that wasn't working and that they would order a new one. I had to go pick up the car and they said they would phone me when it arrived and then they would fit it. About a week went past and no phone call, eventually I phoned them but there was no answer. So I drove over to the shop, only to find that they have closed there doors. I would appreciate any advice you guys can give me. If some one maybe has a wiring diagram for the aircon circuit, I would really be grateful. As my father is a electronic engineer and he could help me test all the components involved if we can get a wiring diagram. Looking forward to your replies. Rudi |

| | Hello Rudi, and welcome to the forum. It seems to me that you may have run into a "SPECIALIST" who recharges cars during the summer but does not actually repair them. (Now illegal under the F-Gas regulations) although let's assume that he is certificated and that something else has happened. You must start with a system pressure check. Any wiring diagram will be useless until you know that there is pressure in the system. If you let me know which area you are in, I will be able to let you have the name of a certicated and reliable a/c specialist Regards Mike Tribe

| | Good day Mike Thanks for the reply. I'm in South Africa, Gauteng, East rand. Where are you from. I have checked wether there is any presure in the system by just briefly pushing the release valve where they would normaly fill up the gas. And there was gas coming out, but I dont know what the actual presure is. I will have it checked out this weekend at a a/c regas company close to me. Just a pitty they don't repairs. Will keep yu posted. Thanks Rudi |

| | Walked straight into that didn't I? Not many specialists I know in South Africa. If only you lived in Essex I might be able to help. Seriously though, which type of compressor is fitted? Be careful if it is the newer clutchless type, you cannot supply 12volts to test it, it requires a variable herz signal to operate Regards Mike
