hi guys (i only found this forum at 5am this morning so im sorry if i miss any info) thought id give this a try before we give up hope on our beloved car

had a letter telling us to take our car in for some recall work on a cooling fan so took the car in and 4 hours later when my boyfriend collected it they told him that they had also done a software update. When my boyfriend turned the key the engine management light came on, he went back into the garage and they had a look and told him they would check that the fan had been wired in correctly, they told us that they thought they had fixed it as the light had turned off. my b/f drove the car home fine and the light stayed off (we live approx 5 mins away from the garage) when he next turned the key the light came back on so he took it back to the garage and they told him (rudely) that it was nothing to do with them and they could look at it in 3 weeks time and it would cost us £90. he left the garage and collected my dad (who has been a mechanic for 30 years but deals with vauxhalls) and they went back up to the garage and when my dad asked if they could look at it any sooner than 3 weeks they told him that my b/f had been lying and it wouldnt take 3 weeks, anyway the car was booked in for 2 days later.

when the car went in 2 days later they read the error codes and told us that the DPF needed changing and if we changed it then it would solve the problem. had the DPF changed and nothing was different.

^^^^^^ all this was almost 2 months ago and since then weve spent hours and hours on the phone and online trying to get some help, also the codes have been read a few more times which costs us £90 a time , the codes are still the same as they were before the DPF change.

the cars booked in today (18/10/11) for them to look at it again (£90) so i was just wondering if any of you guys on here could help in any way?

the work they did: cooling fan recall and DPF regeneration strategy recall

the codes: P138b glow plug control module system voltage, P2458 diesel particulate regeneration duration, P0113 IAT sensor circuit high input, P0448 EGRIP position control performance or range fault.

the car was running fine before it went in and we had never had a problem with it, now it sounds and feels a bit like a tractor.

theyre now saying its the turbo gauge that was fitted approx 2 years ago but was just looking for some help before we spend loads more money as weve spent over £1000 trying to get it right already.

Tia, welcome to the forum.

What a sorry tale! Can you let us know the mileage of the car? Does it have a full service history?

It seems to me that you have been dealt with in a less than satisfactory manner. Providing we have all the information.

Have you been speaking to the service manager at the dealership?

How many times have you paid for a code read?

What is their explanation for changing the DPF and then having the same fault?

Does the car run correctly and is the fuel consumption the same?

Regards

P.S. check fuse 6, 60amp in the main fuse box ( the large one's)

thanks mike!

yeah thats all the info apart from the few arguments weve had with them lol.

the mileage on the car is 84,000, we got the car approx 2 years ago and the service book wasnt very clear so we cant prove the DPF was changed at 75,000 like it supposed to be so as far as were concerned the DPF may have needed changing so were not wasting our time arguing with them about that.

when we told them that the DPF had been changed their answer was "oh ok whatever then we will look at something else". theyre now blaming it on the modifications on the car (all of which have been there 2 years), the only things that are different are the wheels, turbo gauge and cd player.

were just about to take the car there now and i can honestly say im terrified lol

All I can say at this point is, ask them to check everything they have done.

Do not authorise them to carry out any further repairs without your express permission,

Try to speak with the service manager, better still, ask him to get the technician who carried out the work to discuss it with both of you.

If you get any further estimates, ask for specific details and post them on here asap

sorry my last post was a bit crap lol i was on my way out the door.
weve told them that theyre to ring us everytime they want to do something and also asked for a full written report for what theyre doing from the minute we drop the car off till the minute we collect it. Well weve got 5 little tickets of codes that have been read but its been done a few more times than that.
The car runs like a tractor and we havent notice its used any more fuel than normal.

"P138b glow plug control module system voltage" sorting this would be a good place to start.

We had a focus in a couple of weeks ago with eml on and same fault codes

customer said it had just been to ford dealer for recall, I'm guessing they reflashed the pcm to latest software and that has tightened up the parameters for the dpf so now flagging a fault

told him to take it back and speak to them

hey stevecm, thats very interesting. Have you heard any news since?

Just had a phone call from the garage and apparently now theres 11 fault codes and they can look at the car but will charge us £90 an hour. Were going to collect the car in a little while and look at other ways of getting it fixed .

hey mike,

Its been to 3 garages now, 2 ford garages and 1 was a friends garage. The 1 ford garage was recommeded by a few people and they were helpful, they suggested it go back to the original garage where it had the recall done as they couldnt find any info on the software update and had never heard of the software update.

Weve got the car back so going to look at other options of getting it fixed, there are some other codes which ill try and put on later .
