Got a 1996 with the following fail sheet from the MOT

Natural idle test passed at 865rpm CO 0.27%

But when tested at fast idle 2800rpm CO is 0.4% (never less than 0.4%; 0.3 max) HC 59ppm and lambda 1.01

Car has been serviced before arriving with us. Has anyone got any direction? Fords are completely foreign to me as I'm a Peugeot man; double doh!
The car drove home OK without misfire and with good performance. Is there anything common I should check. I was thinking of checking the plug gaps first.
No fault codes present btw

Any ideas welcome

Brent

Brentlord, try disconnecting the throttle potentiometer (red one)also called the idle tracking switch, this is a common fault, failing that if the lamda is switching, the cat is suspect.

Cheers Malcg.

Can you disconnect the exhaust immediately before or after the cat, I've got a feeling you might find it's hollow.w00t

Brent/ Martin, the CAT is mounted immediately up to the manifold on this one, it might be worth dropping it to see if it's intact.Cool

I removed the cat and nothing inside... After a full new exhaust, emissions were 0% CO on both tests and customer remarked how it smoothed out the power. You can see into the cat if you remove the lambda sensor from the top. Hope this helps someone

Thanks guys
