Ford Focus Year 1999 Vin (X) Code (F) 1.8 Turbo Diesel Engine.

Central Locking Problem.

Like most of my problems this one is likely to be another very long string but not if I can help it. Have a Ford Focus in with central locking problem where neither of the two front doors will centrally lock the car. The 2 front doors lock fine manually.
The anti-theft led on the dash is not responding when the doors are locked manually so I am convinced that the system is not being powered.

According to circuit diagram in Haynes manual 12v power supply to central locking control unit is via fuses F7 (in engine compartment fuse box) and F63 supposedly in the fuse box behind the glove compartment. Have found and checked that F7 is OK but on checking the fuses in the fuse box behind the glove box I found that it only has 62 fuse slots. This fuse according to the diagram is the 12v feed (wire colour Orange/White) to the module situated down in the drivers foot well mounted on the ECU.

I cant find any direct feed to the door lock mechanisms so am assuming that the power is connected via the module when it receives an earth switched from the door lock mechanisms.

Would be grateful for any help anyone maybe can give to sort this problem.

Regards,

Diagnut.

Holy Shamoly!  Is this complex or what!

You’re right about the sole power feed being F63 and also about the switches being earth contacts.  The earth wire from the switches goes to the upper of the two earth points beneath the inertia switch in the driver’s kick-panel.

The motors power feeds are yellow and yel/blk.  Like all the other wires in the whole system, they feed directly from the module.

The or/wh to terminal 1A should be a permanent battery live: is yours dead?  Are any/all of the other fuses fed through main F7 live?  How many fuses have you got in the fascia box?  Does the manual/handbook give the position of F63?

Good luck!  Angus

Could this be a corrupted key programming scenario
According to Autodata these cars can have the system programmed whereby you can choose what locks and unlocks by programming the system with diagnostic equipment

Angus,

Did all of the checks that you mentioned in your mail and came to the conclusion that it had to be the F63 fuse or wiring that was causing this fault.

John,

Thanks for you input which resulted in me finding the fuse. I had looked behind there before but couldn’t see any fuse. However it was found after pushing the wiring aside because it sits directly under it. Replaced the fuse and the CL system worked. I then took the plugs out and gave them all a good cleaning just in case high resistance might have caused the fuse to blow or may be it was just old age!

System has been working fine all day so hope that is the end of it.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Regards,

Diagnut.

Hi if it is any help F63 is located behind the passengers fuse box. remove the 2 screws holding the fuse box in and release it from its clips and the whole thing hsould drop down to the floor. fuse 63 will then be found at the back where all of the plugs are. hope this helps, john BigGrin
