Have a Mondeo 2.0 diesel its a 52 reg and the engine code is 6 ........................car came in with dodgy/noisy starter which was removed and repaired in the proces of doing this it was found to be full of filings from the dual mass flywheel

So today we fitted a solid flywheel conversion to it and the repaired starter but now it wont start ........................well it does start for a second or two then just turns when you retry it it starts again for a second and then just turns

Have checked all wiring removed whilst fitting the clutch etc and all ok have also removed the crank sensor and done an ohmms read and it reads 386 ohmms think it supposed to be approx 400

Checked on live data and when cranking its showing an engine speed and also have a code read and its come up with

P1608 Internal ECM fault

P1669 Injector pump control module monitoring ECM fault

P1563 Injector pump control module reqeusting engine stop

P0335 Crankshaft sensor A circuit malfunction

Am trying to determine if its the crank sensor thats gone down causing the other codes to appear or if it is in fact an ECM fault or is it a dodgy flywheel i`ve been sent but would of thought if it was the flywheel it wouldnt fire at all

Any help greatly appreciated as its got me stumped or it had tonight ....................................

Our MOT garage did a clutch on one of these a while back, for no apparent reason it wouldn't start afterwards. Came up with crank sensor fault, new sensor cured it.

There is something about them, but can't remember exactly, someone will. I think one of the engine codes has a single use sensor, if disturbed it must be replaced.Ermm

Arent these the ones where you bolt in a new sensor and the tip of it is hard up against the flywheel, then when you turn the engine over the first time, the "setting" tip breaks off and correct running clearance is generated??

Are you sure the crank sensor wiring isn't pinched when refitting the transmission ?

I stand, to be corrected.

`Found the problem eventually ......................they supplied the wrong flywheel

The gaps for the crank sensor are a different size so the crank sensor is sending the wrong signal at the wrong time

Apparently two types of flywheel for these engines so be careful in future and check the gaps on the sensor ring before fitting to save all the extra hard work
