Hello can anyone help??
i have a ford fiesta and took it for a drive to the coast today and see that when i drive it,
if the rev counter goes above 2500-300rpms it just revs but doesnt go any faster in the selected gear
its ok if i build the speed up in the gears but dont let it hit the above revs(2500-300rpms),
this is a bit of a problem as when i reach around 40 ish in the higher gears i cant go much faster out of it when i hit 300ish revs???
unless i come across a nice hill
awaiting your replys... thank you

Good evening, I think we need to know some more vehicle details, for instance year-model-ect, before the members will be able to offer advice.Regards Mad-Eric PS welcome to the forum.

packard52 (28/03/2010) if the rev counter goes above 2500-300rpms it just revs but doesnt go any faster in the selected gear its ok if i build the speed up in the gears but dont let it hit the above revs(2500-300rpms), That would be appear to be a case of clutch slip - the disc is worn (out).
I stand, to be corrected.

I am confused about what you are saying. Is it that the engine speed rapidly increases when you reach 3000 rev/min or is it that the engine will not go over 3000 rev/min when you are driving the car? The former would suggest that it is a clutch or transmission fault. The latter would suggest that the engine cannot 'breathe' correctly. (Possible induction restriction, valve timing, excessive exhaust restriction to name but three!). There are numerous reasons why this may be the case and it might be best to get the engine management system checked with diagnostic equipment and any fault codes present retrieved. Does the engine appear to misfire? Merv the Swerv.

apologies the post is a bit upside down,
when i drive the car pull away seems fine but when i hit above 2000 -2500 revs in 2nd gear and so on,
i have to change after getting to the above rpms to the next gear or it will just rev
"no rapid increase in revs they sound as normal normal but dont pack any speed above the above rpms.
going to get it onto a computer later in the week when im not to busy to get the fault codes but wanted to have a little try to see if i can solve it myself was thinking to disconnect the maf sensor and give that a try what do you think?
any other sensors i should try, i give this a service a few weeks ago, spark plugs air filter, fuel filter, oil change.

hello mate, it does sound like the clucth is slipping, i know you said youve done a clucth test, was it with the handbrake on then letting the clutch out while in first , i have seen this before were the handbrake test is fine but the clucth will slip higher in the rev range, the cluch i did on a fiesta was absolutly caked in oil, the crakshaft oilseal had gone, and this was leaking into the bell housing, thus making the cluch slip.

packardConsider this question carefully, as the way you've described the symptom could be nothing else but a slipping clutch. [I'll rule out wheelspin on a Fiesta - even one of unknown engine size...] "As you accelerate and the revs reach 2500-3000 revs; what does the rev counter do then, if you keep your foot down and don't change up?"
.
