DTC P0607 Lower Power Counter Error

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0607

Lower Power Counter Error

Circuit Know-how

  • The brain of the fuel injection system is the Engine Control Module (ECM).
  • The ECM checks the data it receives from all the sensors and regulates the systems that influence the performance and activity of the vehicle.
  • The diagnostic function of the system is also done by the ECM.
  • The ECM is capable of identifying operational problems and informs the driver through the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (Check Engine), and store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) or the about the  DTCs and the  faulty areas to guide the technician in correcting the error.
  •  To store the program data and the calibrations needed for engine, transmission, and powertrain diagnostics operation, an Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) is made use of.
  • Inspection of the functioning of the Lower Power Counter Integrated Chip (I/C) and communication between main CPU and Lower Power Counter I/C is carried out by the ECM.

When will DTC set?

Task boosted after DTC sets

When will DTC clear?

DTC sets when :

1)  Ignition switch remains ON.

1) The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will not be seen to glow.

1) A history DTC clears off after 40 consecutive and flawless warm-up cycles.

2) Ignition voltage > 11 volts.

2)  The ECM will record operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails.

2) All DTCs can be removed with the help of a Scan Tool.

3) Engine keeps running for a time beyond 10 seconds.

3) This data will be stored in the freeze Frame boosting Failure Records.

3) If the ECM battery feed is de-linked for more than 10 seconds.

4) A history DTC is stored.

Carry out the EOBD system check.

Work over?

Follow Step 2

Go to

"On-Board Diagnostic System Check"

  1. Switch OFF the ignition.
  2. Change the ECM.

Task complete?

Follow Step 3

  1. Unset all DTCs taking a Scan Tool.
  2. Start the engine and idle at normal operating temperature.
  3. Operate the vehicle within the specified conditions for setting this DTC.

Do you see the scan tool confirming that this diagnostic has been operated and the test passed?
